Yesterday, I had the privilege of tasting the new hot spot in Crestline: Miss Dots. Miss Dots is a fast casual restaurant, with a Southern flare. John Cassimus, the original founder of Zoe’s Kitchen, was greatly inspired by a plantation cook while he was on a hunting trip in East Alabama. Ms. Leola Rogers, nicknamed Miss Dot, quickly became his lifelong friend and business inspiration. Miss Dot is one of those women who’s cooking can instantly make your day. Her infamous fried chicken is crisp to perfection and loved among many.
Miss Dots’ is located in the heart of Crestline Village, directly across from the courthouse. Upon entering, customers will order at the counter before grabbing a seat. Miss Dots’ menu consists of fried chicken, baked “Flat Top” chicken, salads, collard greens, squash casserole, shredded brussel sprouts, pecan pie, specialty, house made cocktails and much more! I tasted the Jib Room Punch. Imagine drinking a tropical island on ice. Mmmm, Mmmm!! Someone’s got to steal that recipe…
I was able to try the fried chicken and freshly fried chicken nuggets. These nuggets are to die for. They are made every single day from scratch, with fresh chicken! No preservatives! You can’t just get that anywhere, y’all! They taste as delicious as they sound. I also tasted the squash casserole and shredded brussel sprouts. Both were cooked to perfection, with the most impressive flavor. I know the amount of Southern food is definitely not unheard of around here, but there is something intriguing about knowing these recipes all originated with a real live woman that knows how to whip up some dang good food. Miss Dot is also known to stop in at both locations, making sure the cooks know how to prepare her recipes to perfection!
