Brunchin’ at Avo & Dram

Flashback Friday is a thing in the blog world, right? Well, I’m going to make it a thing, simply because I just HAVE to share this brunch spot in time for the weekend!

Avo & Dram is one of those Birmingham hot spots that everyone knows about and loves dearly. I’ve been here quite a few times, once for a nice dinner upstairs in the Avo dining room, and another to sit at the bar for a few cocktails and small plates (both of these experiences were delicious with a fabulous, up-beat atmosphere). Oh, and let me tell you, I swear only the most beautiful people in Birmingham dine here. It’s crazy! Seriously, it’s quite glamorous.

Well anyway, I’ll stop swooning over the hottest of the ‘Ham and focus on what’s really important in life… FOOD. One weekend I had a dear friend in town from back home in Atlanta. Frances is one of those friends that loves to go out for a swanky meal. She’s that friend that’s always willing to try the newest and hippest restaurants. Avo & Dram it was! (Below is a picture of Frances and me that morning!)

This particular morning I was feeling healthy, so I went with the Yogurt + Granola, a basic dish with unsweetened, unflavored greek yogurt, topped with homemade granola and seasonal fruit, which happened to be strawberries, peaches, blackberries and blueberries. (It was the heart of the summer). It came with a side of local honey, the perfect amount of sweet! We also ordered the hotcakes for the table… great choice. The were the fluffiest, perfectly sweetened flapjacks with just the right amount of buttery flavor. Is that sentence even grammatically correct? Who cares, the pancakes were fab. So much for my attempt to be healthy that day…

If you dine up at Avo, you are in for a clean, minimalistic vibe. The food is deliciously simple, yet powerful on the palette. It is more of an upscale experience. Downstairs at Dram, the vibe is industrial, almost like you’re visiting a mountain lodge. It is unbelievably cozy. There’s a quaint table in the back that is surrounded by leather arm chairs and a leather sofa, almost like a lounge. That’s where we sat. It was so relaxed!

Y’all for sure need to brunch at Avo & Dram this weekend. ATTENTION: remember, alcohol cannot be served in Alabama until noon!!! I made the mistake of showing up at 10 am, but you better believe we waiting around until 12 🙂

I think it’s worth noting they have half price bottles of wine on Sunday’s! Including champagne!
